Ustad Rashid Khan passed away at the age of 55.

Indian music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on the ninth of January at a hospital in Kolkata. He had been going on under prostate cancer treatment. His demise took place around 3:45 PM. His demise makes a saddening moment for the world of music. Rashid Khan faced a cerebral attack in November, thereafter he had been under treatment in Kolkata’s Tata Memorial Caner Hospital for prostate cancer. He had shown signs of recovery in the beginning but after some time the infection however developed.

The Chief Minister of Kolkata ‘Mamta Banerjee’ had shown her deep condolences on Khan’s demise stating: “This is a great loss for entire the country and the entire music fraternity. I am in a lot of pain as i still can’t believe that Rashid Khan is no more”.
She also visited the hospital after getting free from her official work.

Rashid Khan belonged to Rampur-Sahaswan gharana. He was born on 1 July 1968. He was the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan. He had an interest in music since he was a child and his uncle Ghulam Mustafa Khan was one of the first people who noticed his musical talents. Khan gave his first concert at the age of eleven in the year 1978, he performed at an ITC concert in Delhi.

Rashid Khan has given a remarkable number of hits in the Bollywood film industry such as the song: “Aaoge Jab Tum” from Jab We Met. His talent has also been rewarded with many awards. He was awarded ‘Padma Shri’ in 2006 and ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 2022 along with many other awards.
